• Keep your thermostat between 68 and 72 degrees. Every degree you lower your thermostat will save you about 3% on your heating bill
• Change furnace filters once a month
• Inspect duct work for leakage
• Have your furnace checked and cleaned by a licensed HVAC contractor

Summer –
 

• Clean your air filter – a clean air filter improves system efficiency
• Have a professional check your air conditioning system to insure that it works properly and is not leaking coolant
• Be sure all windows are shut and outside doors are closed when AC is on
• It is important not to have lamps, televisions or other heat sources close to the air conditioner thermostat – heat from these units may cause the AC unit to run longer
• Make sure no obstacles are blocking ducts or fans

Spring and Fall –

• Have your air quality filter checked to ensure efficient energy consumption
• Have humidifier checked and filter changed to ensure proper humidity level in home
• Ensure screens and windows do not have leaks so you can let fresh air in but nothing else
• Vacuum the coils on furnace, air conditioner, refrigerator, and freezer. The cleaner the better for most efficient cooling and heating conditions
